In this online meeting, we included a brief presentation on the progress of the various subprojects. The main focus however was on presenting and discussing the experience with the project The Hague South West, jointly by the contact persons from The Hague and the involved On the Move researchers.
In this collaboration with the municipality, one of the societal partners of On the Move, a future visioning approach was applied to collect views from different stakeholders (including residents living in the area) on the future development of the South-West area. This area faces significant challenges with regard to the living quality, due to traffic safety problems, parking problems, planned real estate developments for increasing the number of houses, etc.
The visioning approach focused on issues of social cohesion, demographic development, political preferences, and availability of funding for investments. All possible futures elaborate on the need for investing in an inclusive mobility system in this area with priority for walking, cycling, and public transport. Possible policy pathways were identified. The visioning approach appeared to work well and was reported in a paper published in 2023. The collaboration with The Hague has since this meeting been continued. Applying the visioning approach with the Province of Gelderland is presently (2023) under discussion.
