Societal partner meeting Sept, 2021

In this meeting, a workshop on transition management and transition scenarios was presented by Jan Nekkers and Jelle Schellekens from Futureconsult.

In the workshop, participants worked on a scenario discovery exercise, moderated. Two online groups of researchers and partners of On the Move discussed and debated possible future scenarios on the mobility transition. How does the mobility system look like in 2040, using the DESTEP approach. What does that imply for changes in niches, regimes and the overarching landscape? What are present paradigms to be changed in favor of these transitions and what are the trigger points to steer at?

The exercise resulted in images of various possible future developments, as well as more in-depth identification of (deep) uncertainties. Also, the potential role of citizens’ science was emphasized (which directly links to the Yellow subproject). Another result of the exercise was a stronger recognition of the important role that employers and project/real estate developers can play in the mobility transition. Basically, this implies that a fourth group of stakeholders should be added to the triangle of stakeholders (travelers/public, providers, public authorities) that was used as basis for On the Move. This a.o. triggered the preparation of an additional proposal for PhD research on the concept and role of mobility hubs, which was granted in 2022 by the Institute of Management Research (planned start: September 2023).
