Collaborating with The Hague: Developing Robust Policies for Climate-Neutral Mobility

Last year, we partnered with the municipality of The Hague—one of our consortium members—to support their efforts toward achieving climate neutrality. Together, we developed an innovative approach that integrates participatory modeling with decision-making under deep uncertainty. This approach was tested during two workshops with municipal employees.

During the workshops, participants gained a shared understanding of the local transport system and the challenges involved. They collaboratively generated potential interventions and explored future scenarios, assessing the robustness of various policies by evaluating them across different possible futures. This process enabled the identification of interventions that are resilient to a range of uncertain conditions, helping to inform more effective decision-making for sustainable mobility.

The findings from this study have recently been published in Transportation Research Interdisciplinary Perspectives:

Modeling with a municipality: Exploring robust policies to foster climate-neutral mobility.
