The Province of Gelderland (Bas Kippers) hosted the project’s societal partner on 28th June 2023.

The mobility policy challenges of the province and the related uncertainties were presented by our host and discussed with the participants. The Province notably struggles with a decreasing service level in public transport, which might have structural implications for accessibility in e.g. rural areas. The issue will be further addressed in a project-based collaboration with the Province, where a vision approach will be followed to explore alternative options and adaptive pathways. The problem of reducing PT services was also raised earlier by ROCOV Gelderland, and was also addressed in the meeting in January 2023. It seems a relevant subject to address in the context of public participation, which is the focus of subproject Yellow.
Prof. Marchau followed up by presenting the theoretical framework for decision-making under (deep) uncertainties. The theory stresses the need to move from predict & act to monitor & adapt. This way of thinking is a.o. adopted in the method of exploratory modeling, which is also the key methodology applied in the subproject Green. Bas Govers and Martijn Legere from Consultancy Goudappel-Coffeng contributed to the meeting by explaining how they adopted this way of thinking in innovative exploratory modeling approaches for traffic management. Given the clear links with On the Move, starting some MSc projects from Delft or Nijmegen with Goudappel-Coffeng will be further explored.
Finally, a short workshop by Peraphan was also included to brainstorm potential future events and trends that may impact the future mobility system of Gelderland province. The outputs can be used by the province in its planning and policy-making processes.
